Great looking vintage desk; value for money. Have some patience with assembly. from Oakland, CA on 08/11/2015 – Verified Buyer
I was in search of a desk for my bedroom that would provide: A) practical use of the available space B) would mesh well with the other decor in a tasteful way and C) I would not have to sell my left kidney to afford it. I'm happy to say I still have both my kidneys, and I'm happy with the overall look and feel of this desk.

I was expecting actual real solid wood, at least for the major pieces. The material, although not solid wood, is a composite that's still quite sturdy and certainly has a finish that closely mimics it's woody rain forest cousin. I did assemble it myself, and it took approximately 3+ hours. To be honest I did have a couple glasses of Merlot during this process (I would recommend having some, but it's not required for assembly). Either way I still got the "I could have been an engineer" satisfaction which often comes from building anything (same satisfaction kids get from playing with legos I would think.)

Anyway I digress- the point is that the assembly wasnt too bad. Yes one of my draws needs a bit of a jiggle to go in- but that was primarily my incompetency. If that happens, you can pacify yourself by saying "close-enough" and that justification usually works for me. It looks pretty sexy as far as desks at this price range goes (iron accent pieces are pretty sweet). Hopefully with this new desk of mine, I will be inspired to write a novel, compose a masterpiece, or more realistically I will get off the bed and do something constructive..

Pros: It's a sexy desk; I wont be surprised if you felt compelled to take a selfie with it..
Cons: It does not come with alcohol and/or a friend willing to assemble it with you.

Great for the price! from Lakeland, FL on 05/18/2014 – Verified Buyer
The desk is beautiful - once it's together, you would have no idea that it's made out of particle board. It looks completely natural like aged wood. That being said, you get what you pay for. None of the drawers line up correctly - they either rub or there's a big gap where there shouldn't be. It took me about 2.5 hours to put together by myself which was slightly longer than I was expecting but I appreciate the extra steps to ensure that the desk will be steady and solidly put together. The drawers are large and will accomodate a lot of items. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and it will stay with us for a long time!

Really nice Appearance! Very Sturdy! from Everett, WA on 08/19/2015 – Verified Buyer
Okay, it takes a little while to put together. However, the directions are pretty good and one person should be able to do it in around three hours or so. What you might have to do at the end of the assembly process is make a few minor adjustments to the drawers (slide tracks on the sides of the drawers) to make them fit nicely and slide in/our perfectly.

Lots of people writing here that the box it comes in is heavy -- it is. At first that might be an issue, but it turns out to be a positive once you assemble the desk. It is quite strong and sturdy in addition to having a nice look.

Pros: Very pleased with the look. Functional and strong/sturdy.
Cons: Box of parts is heavy, but that -- in the end -- is also a pro once you have assembled the desk.

Set a side a few weeks for assembly from Morgantown, WV on 10/13/2014 – Verified Buyer
Its a beautiful desk- just be prepared for A LOT of work to get it together. I ordered this desk in early August for our office. The desk came as promised but the delivery was a nightmare. The package is heavy to say the least. My husband and I had struggled to carry it into the house together and when it was delivered, they ruined the top by sliding it across the truck, leaving a gash. Wayfair replaced it no problem and we dove into construction of the 543541871 pieces that it comes in. We had to contact Wayfair 3 separate times for missing parts in the package. By the time we received everything and got it assembled, it was the end of September. Like I said, it a beautiful desk but I definitely wouldn't purchase it again after the hassle. If it would have been easy to return, I would have just sent it back and started over.

One of the nicer camlock pieces I've built from Downers Grove, IL on 12/07/2015 – Verified Buyer
This is very much your typical composite material piece of furniture with a veneer surface. It is mostly held together with the typical cam lock system. I was pleased with how it went together and the sturdiness of the assembled piece. The cams are metal and once tightened they did feel secure. It seemed much better than what I have seen from other manufacturers (including some previous Sauder pieces). The assembly does take some time, but I did feel the final look was worth it.

The finish on the desk was nice enough, but at the corners you really can tell that it is a laminated finish. There is a light line that runs down each corner and you can tell that it is not solid wood. The drawer fronts had the best finish of any of the pieces. I wish the top had gotten more attention at the corners, but from a few feet away it looks good (just not great).

My desk did come with two lefts for one of the drawers, so something did slip through quality control. A phone call to Sauder was answered promptly (no holding), and there were no questions asked to get the correct piece sent out. While I would have liked to have had all of the correct pieces initially, the customer service at Sauder made it less than painful.

Overall it seems to be a quality desk and worth the price paid. It will not compete with solid wood furniture, but it's also not priced to either.

Pros: Sturdy, great customer service from Sauder
Cons: Cam lock assembly (to be expected at this price point though), finish could be a little nicer

GORGEOUS! from Layton, UT on 04/30/2015 – Verified Buyer
I've had this desk for a little over a year now and still love everything about it. It is very sturdy with plenty of desktop space and drawer space. I also have the matching printer stand - just as great! I was able to build both all on my own within a night. We recently moved to another state and the desk ended up with scratches on the top. I highly suggest covering with a blanket whilst moving (not sure why my husband did not do that in the first place!).

Pros: Sturdy, beautiful, a lot of space
Cons: easily scratched

Good, unique addition to a home office! from Jacksonville, FL on 11/12/2015 – Verified Buyer
I received the desk very promptly (ahead of schedule) in great condition. This is a Sauder product, so it is made in the USA. Everything comes pre-drilled, and the only tools you'll need are a screwdriver and hammer (for the backing to the desk). Overall, it took about 2-3 hours to construct. The instructions are well written and easy to follow. The only drawback are the drawers, which are slightly difficult to align perfectly due to their construction (plastic pieces grip the actual drawer to the front-facing portion). Due to this slight drawback, the drawers don't sit quite perfectly, but is only noticeable if you get very close. Otherwise, a great product with slight room for improvement from the manufacturer. Would recommend to family and friends.

Pros: Good value, majority of desk is easy to assemble, great-looking finished product
Cons: Drawers are difficult to align, some flimsy construction materials, no touch-up paint or pens available

Heavy product, but that means sturdy? Right. from Abingdon, VA on 07/29/2015 – Verified Buyer
The desk was heavy to get in the house. I'm glad I did not have steps to get inside or else it would have been very difficult. I am not the best at putting things together but I made sure to read through he instructions and understand them before I began the process. It went well but slow for me. However, that is not out of the norm with putting things together. There were a lot of parts but not anything I did not expect. Overall, very happy with the way the desk looks and went together but rated it a 4 because it was heavy and I have not had the desk for long enough to review the durability of the product.

Nicer than you think! from Newton, MA on 12/10/2015 – Verified Buyer
My first Wayfair purchase. I was a little hesitant but needed desks for the kids ASAP. It looked great online but you never know what will show up. I am thrilled to say that this is a great quality piece that looks even better! Do note that since it ships in a single box it is very heavy to get wherever you need to get it in your home but worth it. It took a few hours to set up (I am not handy at all) and a couple of pieces weren't marked with part numbers for assembly but given a couple of minutes easy to discern what they were and when done it looked fabulous, solid and you would have thought it was a piece that you had bought that had come already together. I highly recommend it and won't hesitate to buy here in the future!

Pros: Great Value. Solid. Looks better in person
Cons: Longer to set up than expected. Should have choice of left sided or right sided sitting position

Goof For The Price from Henrico, VA on 02/24/2015 – Verified Buyer
The whole time I was putting it together, I was thinking of what kind of review I was going to write because the desk pieces were in great shape. But the last step of the desk where you turn it over, right side up, I see a gash in the desktop, right in front. I didn't notice this when taking everything out of the box because there was no reason to turn the desktop over yet. The laminate has been scratched off and you can see the particle board. Bums me out because it's not like it's in the back where you can't see it or on a different piece.

But with that said, although it took 5 hours to put together; so many pieces! It's actually a pretty good little desk for how much I paid for it.
