Solid bookcase, but a pain to construct
David from Hixson, TN– Verified Buyer
This is an excellent bookcase for the price, sturdy with deep shelves. The only issue is that it relies on a thin back that was not properly drilled. Construction required setting the shelving frame on its side and putting a great deal of weight on it in order to get the back to line up. Otherwise, the back would not meet both sides of the frame.

I'm giving this 3 stars for quality, but I definitely give it a 5 for the great deal I got. The shelves had some minor damage when they were delivered, but that was quickly taken care of with just a phone call. Overall I'm a very happy girl and I think they look great.

Quality is better than appears in the illustration on the site. In appearance, because of its size and capacity, it is more for office, or home office, than for home, but I'm more concerned with proper storage of a large library than with appearance.Assembly appears straightforward, but it is a bit more difficult and time-consuming than one would expect. [...] Instructions are clear; but take your time so you are certain you understand them, especially when it comes to attaching the fixed middle shelf: the screws go into holes in the plastic inserts. The shelves are not as adjustable as I'd expected; there are only fix positions for the non-fixed shelf, at about one and one quarter inch apart. But it will handle all but very few of my tallest volumes. And you'll be pleased with how many volumes it will hold.Assembled, it is not excessively heavy, yet is solid as one would want. (Just be certain you are aware how tall is 80 inches!) [...] All in all, well worth the price, and I'll be ordering another half dozen or so (I have a large library).
Solid and capacious

Pros: Is strong once assembled, without any swaying or wobbling, and will hold an amazing number of books. Assembles easily once one figures out how, which isn't too difficult: illustrated instructions are included. Be certain to assemble where one has sufficient space: these are TALL when assembled and lying down. Cons: the back is not fiberboard, as described, but cardboard. No real problem that shelves can only be "adjusted" during assembly; but, as one can order additional shelves, it would be more useful if there were more options for shelf placement beyond the three "one-inch increments," as standard sized paperbacks leave some 4" of unused space above them. Four shelves of such paperbacks is at least 16" inches of empty space which would hold at least two more shelves of such paperbacks.Be certain when ordering to request double-boxing and that "Do Not Stack" be stamped on the box, as during shipping, though the metal is sheet steel, rounded edges are easily crushed if other boxes are stacked on top. Then one has something of a struggle with assembly. All in all, caveats aside, an excellent value which won't fall apart over time, and the price is reasonable with the free shipping, which latter would usually be at least half the price of the item.

I ordered two of these bookcases. [...]The instructions for putting the shelves together are clear. You do not need special tools, but a power drill to turn the screws will make it faster and simpler. Having a second person helps but isn't absolutely necessary. Being fit enough to get on the floor and bend around into the shelf IS necessary.Just be aware that there are some minor limits on the heights of the shelves; you can't have any extremely short or tall shelf spaces. Your shelf openings will generally be 11" to 14". This is fine for notebooks, quartos, and file boxes.Once constructed, the bookcases are very sturdy, and they hold lots of books and file boxes well. They look good in my office. I also love the steel construction -- no nauseating off-gassing from particleboard or lacquer. These should be much easier to recycle when that day comes, too. I recommend these shelves.

Parts not clearly labeled, and an absolute nightmare to assemble. Shelf is not stable after assembly. Also note this is a metal shelf and not woodparticle board. Some of the reviews referenced chipped boards, etc. I thought I was ordering a wooden shelf because of this, even though the descriptions states it is metal.

Very sturdy bookcase for the price and it looks great too.
We've had so many compliments.

My particle board shelves cracked and then collapsed under weight of books. This unit will not fragment, crack or break under the weight of books. It is a safer option for our office space. However, before buying this unit you must have enough time and a good size area to assemble ..... it wasn't as easy as I had expected and it takes 2 people to move the unit when built.

Bookecases are installed and they are simply great. They all arrived carefully packaged, no damage and they were assemblied well. They are excellent to hold heavy books!
New Packaging --
Joseph Nagarya from Boston, MA– Verified Buyer
Latest purchase of this bookcase came in new packaging -- thicker and stiffer corrugated box that resisted damage, so the unassembled bookcase parts arrived without any damage.
