Functional design but you get what you pay for from Washington, DC on 12/01/2014 – Verified Buyer
This is a review for the L-shape executive office suite, but I am posting it here in case helpful as they apply to this particular unit. Pros: i) Design: The design is very functional, providing lots of storage options, ample work space for your computer and doing paper work at the same time. ii) Value: for the price, this is a great deal, even with the issues listed below. As others have commented it does take a bit of work to put together, probably about an hour for each piece so 3-4 hours in total - but that is pretty normal for flat pack furniture. With a few exceptions, the instructions were pretty much on point, and everything lined up as it should have. The glue does seem like a waste of time though, and I had some specific issues with the instructions, which are noted below. I really want to give this four or even five stars, but there are three reasons I am giving it three stars: i) Large drawer unit was awful: the quality of most of the four piece set was OK, but I had significant issues with the large storage drawers - The locking screws they provide to hold the structure together are of low quality and several broke while I was tightening them. The drawers also did not fit together well when I got to the last step of putting on the front panel, meaning I had to drill my own new holes and screw in new screws to get the thing to hold together. - Lock system doesn''t work: first of all the instructions were missing a step on the very first step of insulation the locking system so when I got to the final stage I found I had to disassemble everything to add in a missing piece. When trying to remove the top drawer from the drawer slider, one side became dislodged and then bent the slider not he other side so it no longer slides smoothly, so I will probably replace it with a new slider from amazon. Bit of a paint, and still the lock system does't work. Even after installing the missing piece, the lock system doesn't line up properly the way it was meant to. By this point in the building, I gave up trying to find a solution and we probably don't need the lock anyway. ii) Cheap veneer: the entire four piece set is covered in a cheap veneer sheet. I don't expect too much for this price, but the quality of the veneer on the main desk is particularly low quality - it is already lifting and peeling off at the front edge which just looks awful. We will probably get some kind of laminate to try to seal it and protect it. iii) Poor instructions: warning for anyone buying the four piece set: the instructions are not clear on the order the units had to be built. I started with the corner desk which seemed like the logical "anchor" of the four piece set. However having constructed that I then found the left hand side panel of the desk unit actually needed to be used for the left hand side panel of the drawers, so I had to dissemble the desk, prop it up while I built the small drawers, and then re-attach. All worked in the end but just made more of a pain to construct. Pros: Functional design Cons: Low quality materials
