This beautiful piece was handcrafted by J. Blas in Mexico. An artisan story card will be included with your purchase. Painted by hand in warm, happy colors, this gecko is born of prehistoric cave art. J. Blas sculpts the gently curving silhouette from sheet iron. It depicts Kokopelli, a prehistoric image regarded as a deity who plays a flute. Legends suggest Kokopelli was a Toltec trader. He traveled from central Mexico to the southwestern deserts and mountains of the U.S. where he is featured in rock paintings dating back thousands of years. About the Artist: J. Blas; Mexican artisan J. Blas has always loved handicrafts. 'When I was 17, I started my own ceramic workshop. But I changed directions and began to work in wrought iron and blown glass. I experimented with sheets of iron to give my works more movement. We cut the metal sheets, hammer them into shape and weld them before treating to retard rust. Every piece created at my workshop goes hand in hand with originality, design and quality. We are always developing new designs and products.'
