About the Designer
Charles & Ray Eames United States
Charles Ormond Eames, Jr (1907–1978) and Bernice Alexandra "Ray" (née Kaiser) Eames (1912–1988) were American designers, who worked in and made major contributions to modern architecture and furniture. They also worked in the fields of industrial and graphic design, fine art and film.
Introduced in 1958 as a special project by Ray Eames for a private residence being designed by Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard, the Eames Aluminum Group originally was specified as "leisure furniture." Now used in various locations, their classic lines and comfortable suspension have kept them in demand for numerous years and spaces, from contemporary homes to elegant offices and hip startups. The Eames Aluminum Group Lounge Chair melds the classic style of the Aluminum Group with the luxurious comfort of a lounge chair, perfect for the office or home office.
Originally conceived in 1958 by Charles and Ray Eames as an outdoor chair for the Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard-designed home of industrialist J. Irwin Miller, the Eames Aluminum Group Outdoor Lounge Chair offers maximum comfort with a minimal profile, and has been updated with modern materials that will stand up to the seasons. A body-supporting TK mesh upholstered seat is held in tension between cast aluminum ribs set atop a sculptural four-star base. Pair a single Outdoor Lounge Chair with a matching ottoman, or cluster multiple chairs around a low table for an informal outdoor dining area.
A mainstay of living rooms, dining areas, and home offices, the Eames Table's versatility is extended to the outdoors. A stone top and sturdy base stand up to the seasons, whether in dining or occasional table height.
